A New Daughter (Part 11) - TGAR Caption

The three got dressed in their nightgowns, Lexi notably putting on one she had chosen that day. The sun had fallen and now it was time for them to relax. To really embrace their “girls night.” Lexi looked down at what she was wearing. Despite only being a girl for a little while, she was wearing by far the most feminine outfit in the room, and of her own will too. Her mother and sister not wearing anything “masculine” of course, but the contrast still stood out for her. Not to mention looking down at her small body and realizing that she was, and probably always would be, the smallest of the three of them. That didn’t bother her though… for some reason. She liked the idea of people looking at her and seeing her as small and cute, like it was an appearance she didn’t know she wanted to try until she had been given the chance to. The way she thought of herself, and wanted other people to think of her, had come a pretty long way. She was still the same person she was when she had first changed, or at least she liked to think so, but so much had been added onto that scared young girl since then. The three of them sat down and began painting each other’s nails as they spoke, Lexi was finally given an opportunity to flaunt the skills that, while basic for the other girls, she had been working on for quite some time now. Much to their joy, they watched as Lexi showed off her precision and ability to clash colors in a surprisingly appealing way. There was something of an underlying feminine touch that came with Lexi’s changes that not many girls could replicate… and she was sort of proud of that fact. In any case, this was a pretty good opportunity to have some family discussion. So Bea piped up and let out what she had on her mind most of the day. Something that had gone unspoken for too long, and if she wanted to see her sister happy and stable, one of them would have to say something.

“Sooo… Elephant in the room. You seem pretty okay with being Lexi now… well, Lexi.” Karen curiously turned towards Bea. “Oh yeah?” Lexi looked between them cautiously as Bea confirmed what she had first said. “Yeah, she told me I didn’t have to call her dad anymore… and, well, she’s pretty happy now yeah?” That was a pretty massive development. Karen had always been calling her Lexi, even when Lexi insisted otherwise. But choosing to take the name upon herself? “Is that true?”

“...Yeah.” Lexi struggled to find the words she was looking for. She knew this was coming eventually. She knew who she was now. But to put it into words was very… difficult. “I wasn’t sure how this conversation would go or when we would have it but… I think I’m okay with being Lexi.” Karen smiled and looked down at her newly painted nails from her daughter dressed in bows and frills. “Well, it isn’t like we have a say in it anyways but… we can stop trying to find a way to change you back. Do you want to stay this way?” She didn’t want to pressure her though, so she pulled back. Forever was a long time, maybe Lexi didn’t know where she stood yet. “Or we can give it more time, no pressure.”

Lexi blushed as she let the truth flow out of her. She thought about how “at home” she felt these days. How “right” her relationship with her sister felt, and how Karen being her “mother” bothered her less and less with each passing day. “I think I do want to be Lexi. I’m a girl now. And I like being a girl now too.” But a dark seed still lay in the back of her mind. Lexi being happy was one thing, but it came at the cost of “Liam” and everything he provided. Would Bea be okay with that, even if she seemed to be outwardly happy to have a sister? Would Karen manage as a single parent? “But… would you allow me to be selfish like that? To be young again? To embrace this new… me?” A few tears ran down her plump cheeks and Karen let out a sigh. “Oh Lexi…” Karen wrapped her arms around Lexi, while Bea looked on with a mixture of glee and caution. “ That isn’t selfish. And I wouldn’t mind regardless. Don’t worry about those sorts of things, we both support you fully. As far as I’m concerned, you’re my new daughter. We can make things work honey.” Lexi let her feelings loose and leaned into her mother’s loving embrace. She didn’t have to pretend she was anyone else, on the inside, or outside. She was just Lexi, now and forever. “Mom…” Beatrice came from behind and let her sister feel the warmth of her bigger sister. The two women in her life who had been guiding hands showed how much they cared for her. “Bea…” Lexi was happy to have her family, even if her position amongst them had changed. “Ah, I love you two.”
