A Little Angst
"On my way right now <3" Aubrey took a cute picture of herself and sent it. Hopefully Kyle would like her outfit, but she was pretty sure he would, she understood the male brain pretty well. "Hey Mom, can I go over to Kyle's house?"
"Are his parents home? Will anybody else be there?" The answer to that was no, obviously. Why else would Aubrey be so excited to go to his place at this time of day?
"Uhhh... yeah, probably." A poorly hidden lie. Aubrey seemed to just get worse and worse at lying, probably because she couldn't bring herself to lie to her mom.
"Don't lie to me." Stern. This was going in the direction she really hadn't wanted it to.
"Ok, so no, but does it even matter?" Aubrey said with a sassy eye roll, why couldn't her mom just be cool about letting her go places?
"Yes, it matters. Either way it's getting late, can't this wait for another day?" Really all she wanted was to keep Aubrey from maybe doing something she would regret. Eventually a parent has to put their foot down make their decision. She would understand, someday.
"No, it HAS to be tonight." Aubrey couldn't WAIT that would be like, the end of the world.
"Sorry, my answer is final. Some other time I might take you over." With that Aubrey
"Ugh! I was never this lame when I was a parent!" Aubrey wasn't always, well, Aubrey. Aubrey acts like and effectively is like any other girl her age except for one large difference. Years ago she used to be her own dad. But when the two of them got swapped, the father and daughter had to adjust to their new lives, and they did so slowly. All this time later though, and they have fully adjusted. You wouldn't be able to tell that they weren't always who they currently were. So, Brian, who became his daughter Aubrey, just goes by Aubrey now, and vice-versa. "Oh, I assure you that you were. How you've changed..." Brian used to be just as sensible and logical, but after accepting his new life as a young girl, and withe the pressures of relearning everything in high school, the social pressures a teen girl faces, and female hormones, she had changed a lot. She had become a lot more immature, so to speak, although you couldn't blame her. Her "Father" also changed a lot, although he wasn't the main breadwinner of the house anymore, him and his now wife sharing that responsibility, he had become quite the reliable and responsible guy. He took up hobbies here and there and had a decent social life for a guy his age, if anything it was an even more miraculous adjustment than Aubrey's. An last of all, her mother who had her daughter and husband swap took it surprisingly well as well. Eventually just acting as if nothing had happened, she would love her new daughter as she always had, and her new husband, romantically or not. "In any case, your not going and that's that missy."
"Come on! I can handle myself can't I? Like, I'm basically a grown up! I'm pretty much 18 plus like, some mental years. Come on Dad, you understand right?" Aubrey turned to her dad who happened to walk by. Their relationship had become one of a daddy's girl and her father with a soft spot for her these days, so maybe he would allow it?
"Your mother's right, sorry honey. I was a girl myself, so I get it sort of, but I can assure you it's for the best." Dad's
"Oh my GAWD you guys suck. You just don't get it. Why can't I just go spend time with Kyle?" Aubrey had let her intentions loose, if only a little bit. This wasn't really about hanging out with friends or going to a party, but more about the boy himself, who had finally invited her over to spend a little... alone time together. Whether that went anywhere or not, who knows.
"So that's what this is about?" Disapproval was written all over Brianna, her mother's face.
"Well YEAH he's like, so cute. All the girls like him." Aubrey couldn't help but gush over the guy. Her parents had heard it all, he was cute, charming, nice, had a great bod, everything. Aubrey had been gunning for him for a while. But they couldn't leave him alone with their daughter like this without meeting him
"And for God's sake, did you intend to go to a boy's house dressed like that?" Aubrey wasn't dressed TOO skimpily, as much as she might want to. But she was showing as much skin as she could.
"What if I did? What if I want to dress like this mom?" Getting defensive, Aubrey doubled down on her outfit. She was old enough she could dress how she wanted to, it was her body after all. For the most part.
"Listen. Not tonight okay? I love you and don't want you put in a bad scenario. You can go another time okay? With one of your friends. Earlier in the day."
"Hmph. Whatever, I'm gonna be in my room." Aubrey stormed off to her room, probably to complain to all her friends over text. Or on social media, which she had become obsessed with.
"What are we going to do with that girl?" Said Brianna, not sure how to handle her daughter. Her case was definitely unique among girls.
"She'll grow out of it... I kinda did, didn't I?" Brian had definitely grown up when push came to shove, as Aubrey entered the world she probably would too.
"Yeah... I hope you're right." Even still, a mother couldn't help but worry.
