Doing It Together
I was talking with my best friend, Lucy. Her and her husband were having a kid, they had been trying for a while.
"Well that's great! It sucks you have to go through pregnancy though." I could never know what it was like to be a woman, so I couldn't relate to her on that level.
"Well, maybe I don't have to go through it alone?"
"What do you mean?"
"Well, your wife was saying to me that she wants a kid too." This wasn't news to me, it was true, but her and my wife weren't nearly as close, so I didn't see why she would care.
"Well then you would be going through it with my wife..."
"Not if we swapped the two of you. You could be the woman and her the man, and you could go through pregnancy with me! Really get the woman's experience." Swap the two of us? Me being the one to carry our child?
"I don't know..." I care about Lucy but... that's a lot to take on.
"Aren't we friends? C'mon, it'll be fun!" Well, the option was there, science had come a long way and maybe it was only fair I did this for her. Lucy had done a lot for me in the past, and me and my wife would have a kid anyways.
"Well, I guess it couldn't hurt too much... why the hell not." And so, we got started on making me a woman- and my wife a man. It was weird, but once the time came I suspected that maybe my wife was in on the whole thing because she was very energetic that first night. I could hardly stand by the end of if all, her new body was a monster. Fortunately, one attempt was all it took and now I was carrying our child. It was a large life change, but it was exciting if nothing else. I didn't know what would come next for the two of us, but at least me and Lucy would have our children together.
